Chill a coupe glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water; leave the glass chilled and empty for serving.

Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, rub the peel on the rim, and drop the twist into the glass as garnish.

Measure and combine gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur and Angostura bitters into a mixing glass; fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice (about 8 large cubes, enough to reach near the top).
