  1. Chill a coupe glass (place in freezer or fill with ice/water) until cold.≈ 5 min
  2. Express an orange peel over the surface to release oils, drop the peel into the drink as garnish.≈ 1 min
  3. Measure and add rye whiskey, dry vermouth, crème de cassis, Angostura bitters, and ice into a mixing glass.≈ 1 min
  4. Stir the ingredients with ice in the mixing glass until the drink is well chilled and properly diluted.≈ 2 min
  5. Strain the stirred cocktail into the chilled coupe glass using a hawthorne or julep strainer.≈ 1 min
